Equipment Malfunction Leads to Two-Vehicle Crash South of Hollister

An equipment malfunction in a vehicle causes it to collide with another at a traffic signal south of Hollister Sunday afternoon resulting in injuries for two people including one from Newton County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at the light at Highways 65 and 265 when an SUV driven by 53-year-old Raymond Smoot of Jasper could not get his vehicle to stop at the red light where it hit another SUV turning off of 65 onto 265. 

The driver of the other SUV was not reported as injured but a passenger in that vehicle, 27-year-old Areli Sosa Vazquez of Liberty, Iowa, as well as Smoot sustained serious injuries and were taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield for treatment.
