Fitzpatrick: State Auditor's Office Fits His Desire for Government Accountability

Missouri State Treasurer Scott Fitzpatrick says his desire to hold government accountable for the taxpayers led him to run for the State Auditor's office.

Fitzpatrick, during an interview on KRZK's "Ozarks Now" program, talks about how making government accountable is why at the age of 25 he ran and won a seat in the Missouri House in 2012 to represent his home area of Shell Knob and the rest of Barry County as well as parts of Stone and Lawrence Counties. Fitzpatrick feels it is important to have oversight of elected offices and officials to make government work better for taxpayers. Fitzpatrick said that principal guided him in the house where he began chairman of the House Budget Committee in 2017 and 2018 and then when he became State Treasurer in 2019 replacing Eric Schmidt, who had been appointed Attorney General.

Fitzpatrick, who won a four-way race in the November election, says he will be meeting with the staff of current Auditor Nicole Galloway in the next couple of weeks to begin that transition plus will take much of his executive team from the Treasurer's office with him when he becomes State Auditor in January.

Fitzpatrick talks more about his years in the Treasurer's office and his plans for the Auditor's office during the interview which can be heard below:
