An event that started over a decade ago in underway today. 

The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving is dedicated to “Giving Tuesday” to encourage people to support not-for-profits with donations or other shows of support. The day is designed to promote not-for-profits and charities throughout the world and how they help people in the community. 
The event organization, on their website, states that the day reimagines a world built upon shared humanity and generosity.
