A lawsuit filed in November against Kanakuk Kamp and CEO Joe White is about accountability according to the party that filed the suit.
Greg, Christa, and Logan Yandell filed the suit alleging fraud was committed when the family was told during discussion of a settlement on the sexual abuse Logan suffered at the hands of Kanakuk Counselor Pete Newman that no one at Kanakuk knew of Newman's abuse prior to his arrest in 2009 while documents discovered and reported on in an article published in 2021 indicate that knowledge of his behavior had been documented back in 2003 and dated back to the late 1990's.
Branson Tri-Lakes News Reporter Jason Wert has written a series of articles including interviews with the Yandells as well as other abuse victims and family members since the lawsuit has been filed. Wert summarizes the series during an interview on KRZK's "Ozarks Now" program saying that a common mention in all of the people he has talked to is that they want acknowledgment for what they they knew in relation to Newman and when. Wert also said that he has reached out to Kanakuk officials on several occasions but the only response so far has been that they do not comment on pending litigation. Wert repeated during the "Ozarks Now" appearance an invitation to Kanakuk officials to do an interview on this lawsuit.
