A Boone County man is facing multiple charges after a shoot out with his cousin in a stolen truck.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots being fired in Omaha. Upon arrival deputies were advised by the victim his cousin, identified as Michael 32-year-old Michael David Woods, had shot at him in front of his home.
The victim told authorities he went down to check on his hogs and noticed a flatbed pickup truck slowly coming down his driveway. He also observed another vehicle at the end of the road as well. As the truck was passing by he said hello and asked what was going on, when Woods sat up from behind the door jam, raised an unknown type of handgun and began shooting towards at “point blank range” with the bullets missing the victim and entering the windshield of another vehicle behind him. The victim stated he jumped behind his jeep and returned fire with his rifle until it jammed. Woods allegedly continued to shoot as he fled.
A short time after the incident, deputies located a flatbed truck abandoned not far from the scene. The license plates did not match those of the truck and authorities discovered the truck had been entered as stolen from the Greene County Sheriff’s Office in Springfield.
Woods has been charged with felony counts aggravated assault, two counts of theft by receiving, possession of firearms by certain persons with an enhanced charge of being habitual offender. According to his criminal history, Woods has been convicted of over 12 felonies.
Woods is currently being held in the Boone County Detention Center on $75,000 cash only bond.
