Merriam Woods asks judge to reconsider Sunshine Law violation ruling

The city of Merriam Woods is asking a Taney County judge to reconsider his ruling that the city violated the Sunshine Law when they did not provide police body cam footage to a defendant in a criminal proceeding.

The city’s attorney, on behalf of the city, the city’s police department, and the city’s former city clerk, filed a motion to reconsider the partial summary judgment in the case involving Vincent Perez.

The attorney for Perez, Michael Horn, filed in Taney County a motion for summary judgment, stating on or about May 31, 2022, Perez was confronted at his home by a Merriam Woods police officer who accused Perez of stealing electric power. Perez claims the officer became hostile almost immediately, slamming him to the ground, then handcuffing him. Perez was then charged with multiple municipal code violations.
