A minor earthquake was reported in the Lakes Region Friday afternoon.
The United States Geological Survey says the magnitude 2.3 quake was recorded in Marion County 8.9 miles east of South Lead Hill at 3:06 Friday afternoon. The location is 21.3 miles west-northwest of Mountain Home, 23.6 miles east-northeast of Harrison and just over 30 miles east-southeast of Branson.
Experts say normally, earthquakes below magnitude 3 are rarely felt. However, smaller quakes from magnitude 2.0 can be felt by humans if the quake is shallow (few kilometers only) and if they are very close to its epicenter and not disturbed by ambient factors such as noise, wind, vibrations of engines, traffic, etc.
Anyone who felt the quake can let the USGS know on its website.
