Nixa Man Sentenced after Conviction on Charges of Threatening His Mother

A Nixa man who threatened to kill his mother with a hatchet because he believed she had been taken by aliens was sentenced Wednesday on charges of kidnapping and unlawful use of a weapon.

The story below is by Bill Tatum, Ozarks First:

Simon Scholz, 35, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for kidnapping and seven years for unlawful use, but he will first attend a 120-day drug treatment program that could keep him out of prison long-term.

If he successfully completes the program, he will be eligible for parole. Scholz pleaded guilty to the charges under a plea agreement in April.

According to a probable cause statement, Nixa police officers arrived at the victim’s home on New Year’s Day in 2023 to find Scholz on top of her in a bed, holding a hatchet to her head. Scholz complied with officers’ orders to release the hatchet and get off the victim.

Scholz also told police that aliens had taken the woman, and he was going to have to kill her. Officers said he appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

In a previous call that evening, Scholz had told law enforcement he had taken heroin, meth and PCP. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation for hallucinations, according to court documents. Upon arrival at the hospital, he was released.
