The Taney County Health Department's Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program receives a special designation by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
According to a release from the Health Department, their WIC Program has been designated as a Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic, one of 52 WIC Clinics in the state to receive this distinction.
Being a Breastfeeding Friendly clinic means that employers proactively support women who choose and continue to breastfeed
their infants according to the release.
“Implementing the necessary steps to be a “Breastfeeding Friendly WIC Clinic” is not easy,” states Wendy Faulkner, TCHD Breastfeeding Peer Counselor in the release, “The WIC team works together to apply for this certification every year.”
The criteria needed to receive the designation includes having both a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor and a Breastfeeding Expert on staff as well as offering classes and a support and a private breastfeeding room.
The designation also allows the health department to receive additional funding to continue to provide breastfeeding education and support.
