With the passage of the Debt Ceiling Bill in both the U.S. House and Senate, the measure being signed by President Joe Biden will push the debt ceiling limit into 2025 and also designate some budget cuts
Although the Bill did receive bi-partisan support, there was also bi-partisan opposition to the measure.
The Lakes Area Congressional Delegation as well as Arkansas and Missouri U.S. Senators, all Republicans, were also split on their support of the Bill.
With information gathered by Ozarks Dynacom's JonChristopher Collins and Ozarks First, here is how the area legislators voted on the Bill:
House Members
The Missouri House Delegation split, with 7th District Congressman Eric Burlison voting against the measure, telling Ozarks First that “after carefully reviewing the bill text and fielding phone calls from my constituents,” he could not support the bill. Meanwhile 8th District Congressman Jason Smith, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, says in an Ozarks First Story that the Bill does begin the process of cutting back on spending.
Meanwhile, the House record of the vote shows both Arkansas Area Congressmen, 1st District Representative Rick Crawford and 3rd District Representative Steve Womack, both voted for the measure.
Senate Members
Only one of the four states Senators, John Boozman of Arkansas voted for the measure. The other Arkansas Senator, Tom Cotton, as well as Missouri Senators Josh Hawley and Eric Schmitt, voted against it. Cotton tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that while he liked several parts of the Bill, his concern's about language involving Defense Spending led to his decision to vote against the measure.
