Cara Carlin with the Arkansas Better Business Bureau talked Wednesday about holiday and home improvement scams.
Carlin spoke about this during KHOZ's "Around The Table" Wednesday broadcast. She said a variety of scams pop up over the holidays. The "big message" she said the organization promotes is "shop safe, shop smart." Carlin said online shopping makes it easy to fall victim to fake deals or buy products that never come. The safest way to shop, according to Carlin is in the actual stores.
While she said this is the safest way to shop, she acknowledged that supply chain problems still impact stores. "The danger is greater online," Carlin said. She also discussed methods to shop online.
She recommends trusting one's "gut" and researching before making purchases. "You can use bbb.org and online reviews to do your homework before pressing pay," she said. Carlin highlighted learning how to spot fake reviews.
All of this and more was discussed during the broadcast.
