A Newton County group is putting together a Town Hall Meeting discussing the future of the Buffalo National River.
The Remnants Project group is putting together the meeting to bring forth information on recent efforts to transition the Buffalo River from a National River to a National Park Preserve.
Runway Group, an organization according to their website involved in making northwest Arkansas the best place to live, has recently been exploring efforts to change the designation of the Buffalo National River into a National Park Preserve. A statement on the group's website said a telephone poll was taking of residents in Baxter, Madison, Marion, Newton, and Searcy Counties to understand their feelings about the river. The group also posted a sheet on their website on how a National Park Designation would benefit the area.
On their Facebook Page, Remnants Project states the meeting will give area residents a chance to here more about the proposals and possible impacts to privately held lands and the watershed in the region.
The meeting is scheduled for Thursday October 26 at the Carroll Electric Coop Building in Jasper.
