Two Days Until Election

In two days, voters will go to the polls across the nation to determine the next President plus a number of other issues and offices.

In Missouri, that will include races for Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, and Attorney General. 

While most county races in Stone and Taney County were decided in the August Primary, there are some contested representative races plus statewide and local issues on the ballot.

Current 7th District Republican Congressman Eric Burlison will face a challenge from Democrat and current Forsyth Mayor Missi Hesketh along with Libertarian Candidate Kevin Craig to earn a second term in office. 

Two State Representative Races are also contested with Republican Matthew Overcast and Democrat Courtney Sweeney-Legore vying for the 155th District Seat vacated by Travis Smith after deciding on running for State Senate, a race he lost to Brad Hudson. Also in 156, incumbent Republican Brian Seitz will face a challenge from Democrat Janis Beacham. 

Six issues will be going before voters statewide with other issues locally. Those issues include:

Constitutional Amendment 2: Allow the Missouri Gaming Commission to regulate licensed sports wagering.

Constitutional Amendment 3: Revisions to Missouri's Abortion Law.

Constitutional Amendment 5: Gambling Boat for the Osage River.

Constitutional Amendment 6: The levying of costs and fees to support salaries and benefits for certain current and former law enforcement.

Constitutional Amendment 7: Adding voting requirements to match state law.

Proposition A: Approval of a pair of Minimum Wage increases to go to $15.00 per hour by 2026.

Stone County Question: Exempt senior citizens aged 62 and older from increases in the property tax liability due on primary residence.

Indian Point: Property Tax of 50 cents on $100 Assessed Valuation.

Saddlebrooke: Internet Local Use Tax.

In Arkansas, voters including those in Harrison will see several contested local races. 

Three sports on the Harrison City Council, all for seats being vacated by their current office holders, will be contested. 

That includes both Ward 1 Positions with Stephen Franco and Josh Earl running for one seat while Gwen Hoffman and Liz Torgerson vying for the other seat. Also contested is one of the Ward 3 Seats between Austin Wilson, Charlie Pierce, and Mellie Williams.

The other Council Members, Mitch Magness and Larry Philips in Ward 2, Reed Petty in Ward 3, along with Joel Williams and Wayne Cone in Ward 4 are running unopposed. 

Also running unopposed is City Clerk James White, who was appointed to that position a year ago to fill the remaining term of Jeff Pratt who stepped down. 

Also on the Harrison Ballot according to the city will be the extension of the millage for the Firemen’s Pension Fund.

Harrison Voters will also vote on other regional races as will voters in other communities and counties. 

Current 1st District Republican Congressman Rick Crawford will be challenged by Democrat Rodney Givens and Libertarian Steve Parsons. 

There are also three Constitutional Amendments on the Ballot, one dealing with the Lottery Scholarship Program, another on allowing for countywide votes on proposed casinos, and one on revisions to the state's Medical Marijuana Law. There have been some legal challenges to the casino and marijuana ballot questions, though the Arkansas Supreme Court cleared the casino initiative to go forward while the other issue remains in litigation.

Missouri: Absentee Voting will conclude on Monday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with polls open on Tuesday from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm. 
Arkansas: Early Voting will wrap-up on Monday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with polls open on Tuesday from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm.
