Gerald Devere Young, age 91, of Cassville, Missouri

          Gerald Devere Young, age 91, of Cassville, Missouri passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023 at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, Missouri.

            He was born on August 17, 1932 at Mineral Springs, Missouri the son of Alfred and Dora (Ennis) Young. On October 28, 1950 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas he was united in marriage to Phyllis Sue Ryan, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Deborah Sue Ellis of Huntsville, Arkansas, Regina Kay James of Springfield, Missouri and Tonya Lynn Coones and her husband Lyn of Cassville, Missouri; one son, Kevin Devere Young and his companion Bonita of Exeter, Missouri; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

            Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Alden Young and Doyle Young; two great-grandchildren, Sawyer Rivera and Christopher Rivera and one son-in-law, Bobby James.

            Gerald attended school in Cassville, Missouri graduating from Cassville High School later attending Monett Junior College where he attained a degree in teaching. He had an extensive work history as he was employed by Armour and Company for 15 years, Vaisey-Bristol Shoe Company for 15 years, Garrett Manufacturing for two years, EFCO Corporation for 15 years from where he retired before going to work at Walmart for 16 years from where he also retired. Gerald enjoyed fly fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and listening to bluegrass music. Family gatherings was always a favorite as he loved to tell stories and visit. He passed away on his brother’s birthday. Gerald was saved at the age of 17 and was very involved as a deacon at Victory Baptist Church.

            Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 3, 2023 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Reverend Russell Bishop and Matt Kelley will conduct the services. Burial will be at Mineral Springs Cemetery in Cassville, Missouri.

            The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until service time Friday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.

            Contributions may be made to Victory Baptist Church in memory of Gerald.
