Gerald Lance Grummons...
Gerald Lance Grummons was born on April 8, 1940 in Sisseton, South Dakota to Harold Ralph Grummons and Mildred Beatrice Sparby Grummons.
Gerry grew up on a farm homesteaded by his Grandparents Sparby near Rosholt, South Dakota. His first five years of elementary school were spent in a one room rural school near Victor, South Dakota, ultimately graduating from Rosholt High School in 1958.
He took various courses at Jamestown College, Cedar Rapids Community College, University of Nebraska and Marquette University.
During his high school days he operated a radio and television sales and repair business in Rosholt. He then operated a service station along with his father for several years. He earned his pilots license and experienced many adventures traveling by plane.
New opportunities arose and he then managed Consumer Finance Company branch offices in North Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado and Kansas. Gerry served as board member and 1 year as board president of a regional credit bureau in Topeka, Kansas. He also served for 6 years on the board of directors and 2 years as board president of a landlord/tenant and consumer credit counseling agency in Topeka.
Shortly after moving to Topeka, he met and married Beverly Hannes. They spent 35 years together until her death in 2013.
After retirement, he became a Mobile Notary Public, serving a wide area around Forsyth, Missouri. He became active in the Forsyth Area Chamber of Commerce and elected board president in 2017.
As a member of Lions Club International, he served as President of the Boulder Centennial Lions (Boulder, CO) and the Forsyth Lions Club (Forsyth, MO). He was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellow and Hayward Snipes Society awards from the Lions Club. He was a district chair representing World Services for the Blind in Little Rock, AR. Most recently he served as Sight Conservation Chair for District M-6 in Southwest Missouri. Gerry also became a vision screening technician for Kid Sight. Gerry was a founding board member of the Douglas Mahnkey Foundation.
He is survived by brothers Milo Grummons of Florida and Loren Grummons (Cheryl) of Texas; step-children, Cheryl Carlton, Vyn Skinner, Gary Hannes and Gayle Bailey of Topeka, KS.
He was preceded by his parents and wife Beverly.
His ashes will be interred at the Garden of Memories, Yankton, South Dakota.
Cremation was in the care of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home & Crematory, Branson.
