James E. Hager, 84, of Hollister.
James E. Hager, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024, in Hollister, Missouri, at the age of 84. He was born on May 17, 1940, in Tulare, California, to Curtis and Lessie (Keathley) Hager. James lived a full life marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a career serving his community.
After graduating from San Lorenzo High School in California, James proudly served his nation by enlisting in the United States Army. His time in the military instilled in him a sense of commitment to service that he carried throughout his life. Later James enjoyed a long career as the produce manager at his local grocery store. His work was not just a job but a way to connect with his community, offering a friendly smile and a helping hand to his neighbors.
James is survived by his cherished wife, Diane, of the home, who was his partner in all things and with whom he enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures. His daughters, Kathy and her husband Chris Autrey of Fremont, California, Debbie Hager of Fremont, California, and Anna Marie Silvey Hager of Hollister, Missouri; step-daughters, Jill Carlton of Newark, California, and Pamela Terranova of La Quinta, California. James's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Rebecca Autrey, Jacob Autrey, Shamryn Carlton, Michael Carlton, Michael Terranova, Anton Mazur, and Erin Mazur, as well as his six great-grandchildren. He was a beloved brother to Caritas (Pat) Foster of Fremont, California, and David Foster of Terry, Mississippi.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Curtis and Lessie (Keathley) Hager, and his brother, Bill Hager. They have now welcomed James into eternal rest, where memories of their time together will be cherished forever.
James's interests were as varied as they were heartfelt. He treasured time spent with Diane, whether it was a quiet evening at home or an adventure out on the town. His spirit of lending a hand to others was not just a pastime but a way of life. His presence was a comfort to those who knew him, and his absence will be deeply felt.
To know James was to know a man who was genuinely interested in the well-being of others. Whether it was through his work, his service, or his daily interactions, James made a positive impact on the lives of many. As we say goodbye to James, we celebrate a life well-lived, a man well-loved, and a legacy that will continue to inspire.
