Kenneth Ray Coy, 84, Springfield, Missouri

Kenneth Ray Coy, 84, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023, in Springfield, Missouri. He was born on September 29, 1939, in Kissee Mills, Missouri, to Bernetta (Cummings) and Joe Dick Coy, who preceded him in death.

 Ken graduated high school from Forsyth, Missouri, in 1957 and attended Drury College in Springfield, Missouri, where he received many awards for his excellent grades and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He married Sharon Ayres his junior year and together they had three children: Leslie, Kent and Sharon.

 Always an avid learner, Ken continued his post-graduate education at Oklahoma State University, where he earned a Master of Science degree in Macro Economics.

 He then began his successful career with General Electric Company, traveling throughout the US and the world in the Corporate Audit Division, under the direction of Jack Welch. He retired in 1993 as a System Financial Manager.

 In 2003, Ken returned to Springfield from Albany, NY, where he reconnected with his former classmate and friend, Sue Hall. Sue and Ken were married on December 23, 2004, and together they enjoyed many happy years traveling the globe,  spending winter months in Bonita Springs, Florida, researching family genealogy, socializing with their many friends and reminiscing about their childhood days with drives through Taney County that Ken loved so much.

 A member of both Worthington Country Club in Bonita Springs and Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield, Ken enjoyed golfing throughout his retirement years. He also was an avid reader/lover of western books, a keen word search puzzle master and the world’s biggest Dallas Cowboys fan.

 Ken is survived by his wife, Sue, of the home; brother, Paul (Maude) Coy, of Nixa, MO; sisters Linda (Steve) Snow of Jenks, OK, and Cindy (Donnie) Rains of Powersite, MO; daughters Leslie (Ed) Gailor of Lancaster, PA, and Sharon (Tom) Salisbury of Albany, NY; son, Kent (Karen) Coy of Roanoke, Virginia; step-daughters Abby (Fred) Dallas and Tiffany  Tarvestad (David Atencio) all of Ozark, MO; 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and a multitude of extended family members and friends.

 The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Cedarhurst in Springfield for the excellent and loving care they provided to Ken over the last 1 1/2 years during his battle with Alzheimer’s.

 A family graveside service will be held at a later date. Services are under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Forsyth Chapel, Forsyth, Mo.
