Leatrice Lavon (Hutchens) Cox

Leatrice Lavon (Hutchens) Cox, age 80 of Cassville, Missouri

Leatrice Lavon (Hutchens) Cox, age 80 of Cassville, went to be with her heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born September 4, 1943 in Cassville, the daughter of Jethro and Bess (Fogg) Hutchens. On July 27, 1973, in Miami, Oklahoma, she was united in marriage to Jimmy D. Cox, who passed away on March 11, 2020. Surviving are one son, Johnnie Cox and his wife Megan of Cassville; two daughters, Amy Cole and her husband Mike of Exeter and Jayme Reuter and her husband Ben of Cassville; nine grandchildren, Madelyn Cole, Sadie Reuter, Ella Reuter, Chaney Cox, Joseph Reuter, Claire Reuter, Brandt Reuter, Hale Cox and Molly Cox; one brother, Carol Hutchens and his wife Rowena of Cassville and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Cox and Mary Easley.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband and brothers-in-law, Jerry Cox, Ted Easley and Bill Cox and his wife Jean.

Lea was raised in a faithful Christian home and accepted Christ as her savior at a young age. Lea grew up and received her education in Cassville graduating in 1961 from Cassville High School. A few years after high school, Lea worked at the South Barry County Hospital for Dr. Vance Cridling and then she worked for Dr. William G. Barnes at his medical clinic. Later, she worked with Jim at their family trucking company J & L Transportation which they owned and operated for 20 years.

Lea enjoyed her retirement after they sold the business by spending time with her grandchildren and going on trips with Jim. Lea enjoyed staying at home even more and often read and loved watching crime dramas. She was also a very avid Kansas City Chiefs fan from the early 60’s on and attended many games. Most of all she loved and enjoyed her family, especially her grandkids. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cassville and spent many hours in the nursery with her dear friends caring for the babies of the church.

Lea was homebound during the last few years of her life and during that time she received wonderful care from the ladies at Amazing Grace and Compassus Hospice. Lea and her family will be forever grateful for their kindness and care.

Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Cassville, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Pastor James Weaver and Johnnie Cox will conduct the services. Burial will be at Corinth Cemetery in Cassville, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.

Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Youth Group in memory of Lea.
