Thelma Rae Hankins

Thelma Rae Hankins, 95, Point Lookout , MO

Thelma Rae Hankins, born December 5, 1925, in Hilda, MO to Willard and Allie May (Braden) Roberts, passed away August 4, 2021, at the age of 95, at Point Lookout Nursing and Rehab in Hollister, MO. Thelma was united in marriage to William “Bill” V Hankins on December 5, 1945, in Goldendale, WA, after he returned from England while serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 am, Tuesday, August 10, 2021, in the Hankins Cemetery in Protem, MO with her grandson, Rev.  Dan Hankins officiating.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William “Bill” V Hankins; daughter, Leona Gail Hankins; brothers, William “Son” Roberts, Jack Roberts, Billy Roberts and sisters, Lorene Garver and Bonnie Collins.

She is survived by her children, Danny Hankins (Connie), Wm Darrel Hankins (Marilyn), Jimmy Hankins, and Bonnie Smith (Michael); 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; brother, Denzil Roberts (Lila), sister, Violet Laughlin and many nieces and nephews.

Thelma (Granny), attended school at Johnson School, Hilda, MO. After school, she went to Tulsa, OK, to work as a nanny and later to California painting WWII ships. She returned to Missouri when William came home from England. She was a homemaker and loved to plant a vegetable garden and especially enjoyed planting and caring for her many flowers. She always had furry friends. Her home was always open to her family and her grandchildren whom often visited. She enjoyed family holidays together. Granny could often be heard singing hymns as she worked in her home and garden.

Proverbs 17:6 “Children’s children are a crown to the age, and parents are the pride of their children”.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Point Lookout Nursing and Rehab for the excellent care they have given her.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kissee-Schofield-Eakins Funeral Home, Forsyth, MO.
