Severe Weather Can Leave a Trail of Vehicle Damage in Its Wake

The recent bout of severe weather has taken a toll on vehicles across the region, causing a range of damages and leaving motorists grappling with repair costs. As snow, ice, and freezing rain wreak havoc on roadways, vehicles have borne the brunt of the harsh conditions.

One of the most common types of damage reported is body damage resulting from collisions and sliding incidents. Slippery road surfaces have led to an increased number of fender-benders, with vehicles sliding into one another at intersections and on highways. The impact of these collisions often results in dented bumpers, cracked headlights, and other body damage.

Another prevalent issue is damage to windshields and windows caused by hail and icy conditions. The combination of freezing rain and plummeting temperatures has led to ice accumulation on vehicles, making it challenging for drivers to clear their windshields adequately. Attempting to remove ice without proper precautions can result in scratched or cracked glass.

Furthermore, the road salt and de-icing agents applied by transportation departments to enhance road safety have contributed to undercarriage corrosion. The salt, while effective in preventing ice accumulation, can accelerate rusting and deterioration of the vehicle's undercarriage components.

Tire damage has also been on the rise, with many drivers experiencing blowouts and punctures due to road debris and uneven road surfaces. The constant freeze-thaw cycle exacerbates road conditions, creating potholes and hazards that can be particularly damaging to tires.

To mitigate these issues, experts recommend regular vehicle maintenance, including checking the battery, ensuring proper tire inflation, and applying a protective coating to the undercarriage. Additionally, exercising caution on icy roads and avoiding unnecessary travel during severe weather can significantly reduce the risk of vehicle damage.

As the inclement weather persists, motorists are advised to stay vigilant, adapt driving habits to the conditions, and promptly address any damage to ensure their vehicles remain safe and roadworthy.
